Weeks before
- Check your passport validity. Many countries require it to be valid for several months beyond your travel dates. Renewals go through DGIP.
- Confirm your visa matches your purpose of travel. Visit, study and work visas are not interchangeable.
- If you are going for employment, find out whether you need Protector registration.
- Read the baggage allowance on your ticket. See our baggage guide.
The day before
- Check your flight time on the airline's official website.
- Print or save copies of your ticket, visa, and any hotel or invitation letters. Keep paper copies too, in case your phone dies.
- Pack medicines in your hand luggage with prescriptions.
At the airport, in order
- Entry: you may be asked to show your ticket and passport to enter the terminal.
- Check-in: hand over checked bags and receive your boarding pass. Ask which gate and boarding time.
- Emigration (FIA): officers check your passport, visa and, where relevant, Protector stamp. Answer questions simply and honestly.
- Security: liquids, power banks and electronics are screened. Follow staff instructions.
- Gate: stay near your gate and listen for announcements. Gates can change.
On arrival
You will pass immigration in your destination country before collecting bags. Keep your address and return or onward details ready.
