Protector of Emigrants, explained

What the Protector stamp is, who usually needs it, and where to verify.

Pakistan's Emigration system, run by the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment (BE&OE), registers citizens going abroad for employment. Registration is done through Protector of Emigrants offices, and the outcome is often called the "Protector stamp".

Who it generally applies to

  • People travelling abroad on an employment or work visa.
  • It is generally not required for visit, tourist or study travel, but categories and exemptions are set by BE&OE, so check your own case.

Why it matters at the airport

Emigration officers at departure may ask for proof of registration if your visa indicates employment. Not having it can mean being stopped from boarding.

What to prepare

  • Your passport and work visa or employment contract.
  • Your CNIC.
  • Any documents your Overseas Employment Promoter or the BE&OE requests.

Verify officially

Requirements, fees and office locations are published by BE&OE. Always confirm on beoe.gov.pk before you travel. Be careful of agents promising shortcuts.
